Blood Type (Blood Type Series #1) by K.A. Linde

Publication: April 24, 2018
Publisher: Random House/Loveswept
Source: Bought my own copy

A startling new vision of paranormal romance: When a human ventures into the world of vampires—a decadent milieu of blood-bonds and betrayal—she discovers that not all is what it seems.

For Reyna Carpenter, giving up her body isn’t a choice. It’s survival.

In a civilization laid waste by poverty and desperation, Reyna accepts a high-paying position with the wealthy and hungry vampire elite. Her new job is as the live-in blood escort for the intimidating, demanding, and devilishly handsome Beckham Anderson. He’s everything she expected from a vampire, except for one thing—he won’t feed off her.

Reyna soon discovers that behind Beckham’s brooding, wicked façade lies a unique and complex man. And that, in a dark and divided world, she is more valuable than she ever would have believed.

For with each passing night, Reyna can’t shake the sensation that it’s Beckham who’s afraid of her.

Note: Reyna and Beckham’s story continues in Blood Match.

Without giving too much away….Reyna feels like she has no other options left in terms of making money to help assist her and her two brothers, Brian and Drew. So she turns to Visage to become a blood escort. Even though she feels like doing this is the only way, she is still scared and a little hesitant because of how her brothers might react to the news. Vampires seem to be the more dominant/ superior species at the moment, while a huge chunk of the human population is poor and barely making enough to sustain themselves. There are quite a few prejudices between the humans and vampires. Each one seems to think they’re better than the other. And not many people want to help bridge the gap that divides them.

Reyna is the curious sort, she loves to ask questions and it’s hard for her to just sit back and no nothing when she believes someone needs help or some action needs to takes place.
Her life may seem like a fairytale once she gets a permanent position with Beckham Anderson, one of the top vampires at Visage, but appearances can oftentimes be deceiving. He is serious, very handsome, dedicated to his work, and hates people asking questions. Reyna coming into his life was not something he asked for, but he’ll make it work. They don’t make the greatest first impression though. Especially where Beckham is concerned…

“The only thing that was really very clear was that Beckham Anderson was a complete and total asshole.”

Okay what else do I have to say about Blood Type...Well I feel like no matter what I say I won’t be able to do this book review justice. This book too me by surprise. It felt like one of those drinks a bartender makes that is delicious from the first sip, but it doesn’t really hit you until you start to move.

I have read other books by K.A. Linde, but they were all contemporary romance stories with tons of angst and drama thrown in. Which I loved. But this book is a paranormal romance and I was a little skeptical. I should not have been. It was just the right read for me. Even if this is your first time venturing into the paranormal world, Blood Type would be a great place to start. The story was addicting. I could have finished the whole thing in 24 hours, but I dragged it out, just so I could make the story last a little bit longer. This book did end on a cliffhanger, but luckily book 2, Blood Match releases June 26, 2018!

Should’ve Said No (Thistle Bend #1) by Tracy March

Publication: November 24, 2015
Publisher: Loveswept (Random House)
Source: Publisher

Welcome to Thistle Bend! Perfect for fans of Susan Mallery, this charming series debut introduces a small town where old secrets are revealed—and wounded hearts are opened to new love.
A year after being laid off from the Smithsonian, Lindsey Simms says yes to a job offer as curator of a heritage museum in Thistle Bend, Colorado (population 1,519). It could be worse—and it is. Because the new museum has escalated a dispute between the Karlssons, Lindsey’s relatives, and the Crenshaws, a blood feud which goes way back to a land deal that changed the fortunes of both families. Trying to stay objective, Lindsey can’t tell anyone about her conflict of interest—especially not the ruggedly handsome handyman fixing up her cabin, who seems to be keeping secrets of his own.
Although he’s the executive director of the family trust and one of Colorado’s most eligible bachelors, Carden Crenshaw prefers getting his hands dirty in town and on his sprawling ranch. Staying busy has given him an excuse not to risk heartbreak, but getting to know the beautiful “museum lady” makes him reconsider. Little does he know, the heat between them will only add fuel to the fire—unless this unlikely couple can prove they’re lovers, not fighters.

The family feud going on between the Karlsson’s and the Crenshaw’s was a little reminiscent of The Hatfield's and the McCoy’s, but in modern day times. . The dislike between the two of them has been spanning years. Lindsey is related to the Karlsson’s...a family who has struggled a bit in life and feel that if the Crenshaw’s hadn’t cheated them out of a land deal  (a deal that ended up making the Crenshaw’s a very wealthy family), they would be the ones who were wealthy and thriving.

Looking for a fresh start, a chance to prove herself and do something she is passionate about, Lindsey takes a job to help with the curation of the new town museum that is being built. And even though she has agreed with her family in town not to let anyone know that she’s related to the Karlsson’s, the more time she spends with Carden, the more her guilt begins to grow. But Carden isn’t being as honest as he should himself and it’s only a matter of time before the truth is out.

Carden Crenshaw is more than just a pretty face. He is also a guy that doesn’t mind and actually likes getting his hands dirty and working hard to build something. Plus he loves to help people out when he can. He normally doesn’t get involve with any of the women in Thistle Bend, but once he’s met Lindsey, his interest is peaked and he starts to reconsider things.

Should've Said No by Tracy March was a quick romantic read. Carden and Lindsey made a cute couple. It was easy to like them and before I knew it, I found myself hoping they would make it as a couple. The townspeople are quirky and interesting and I enjoyed getting to know them. There’s something about small town stories/romances that I love. Those can sometimes end up being the most enjoyable romances I have read. I think this was a good first book to the Thistle Bend series. I look forward to seeing what happens with Holly Birdsong and Bryce Bennett in the second book, Just Say Maybe releasing on May 3, 2016.

Ruined (Ethan Frost #1) by Tracy Wolff

Publication: January 7, 2014
Publisher: Loveswept / Random Publishing
Source: Bought

He’s the last man Chloe Girard should love . . . but the first she ever could.

Ethan Frost is a visionary, a genius, every woman’s deepest, darkest fantasy—even mine. And, somehow, I am his.

He stole into my life like a dream. Turned my reality upside down and made my every desire come true—especially those I never knew I had. He demanded everything I had to give and gave me everything of himself in return.

But dreams don’t last forever, and ours is no exception. Because my nightmares are darker, and my wounds deeper, than I could ever reveal. And as much as Ethan wants to protect me, the secrets we we share will only tear us apart.

Chloe is going to school to become a lawyer when she takes a job interning at a bio-med company in San Diego for the summer.
Nothing makes a quite an impression like arguing with the smoothie guy on your first day on the job. Except for if that smoothie guy turns out to be Ethan Frost, the owner of the company you’re interning at.

Naturally, Ethan’s interest in Chloe is piqued. What begins is this back and forth thing were he makes it known he likes her, but she refuses to go out with him. He doesn’t see anything wrong with going out with an intern, but what he doesn’t know is that she is already getting harassed at work from fellow interns who think she is trying to sleep her way to the top.

Chloe wants to take a chance, but there is something from her past that she is hiding from that holds her back. Even though Ethan makes her feel things she hasn’t in years.

Ethan isn’t one of these shallow self-absorbed wealthy guys. He cares about people and the environment. And it shows through his strong and warm personality. I liked how Chloe didn’t let the people she worked with scare her off or intimidate her. She wants to prove herself by working hard and showing that she is the right person for the project.

Ruined is a fun romance story. I liked that both of the two main characters are strong and smart individuals. They both have ambition and passion. I am curious to see how their relationship plays out in the second book, Addicted.

RATING: 3½ out of 5.
