In Her Bones by Kate Moretti Blog Tour!

About IN HER BONES:
Fifteen years ago, Lilith Wade was arrested for the brutal murder of six women. After a death row conviction, media frenzy, and the release of an unauthorized biography, her thirty-year-old daughter Edie Beckett is just trying to survive out of the spotlight. She’s a recovering alcoholic with a dead-end city job and an unhealthy codependent relationship with her brother. Edie also has a disturbing secret: a growing obsession with the families of Lilith’s victims. She’s desperate to see how they’ve managed—or failed—to move on. While her escalating fixation is a problem, she’s careful to keep her distance. That is, until she crosses a line and a man is found murdered. Edie quickly becomes the prime suspect—and while she can’t remember everything that happened the night of the murder, she’d surely remember killing someone. With the detective who arrested her mother hot on her trail, Edie goes into hiding. She’s must get to the truth of what happened that night before the police—or the real killer—find her. Unless, of course, she has more in common with her mother than she’s willing to admit…

Perfect for fans of Ruth Ware, IN HER BONES features Moretti’s “riveting and insightful” (Megan Miranda, New York Times bestselling author) prose and “chillingly satisfying” (Publishers Weekly) twists, and will leave you questioning the nature of guilt, obsession, and the toxicity of familial ties.

***************

Edie Beckett, a 30 year old on again off again alcoholic, lives her life under the radar. She is content with people not recognizing her and being able to go about her business. She also fears she could be become a sociopath like her mother Lilith Wade. Lilith Wade murdered 6 people 15 years ago and it seems like no matter what she does or how far she goes, Edie cannot outrun her past. Edie has become obsessed with finding out all she can in regards to the families of her mother's victims. She even goes as far as creating fake Facebook accounts and befriending these people and sometimes even following them in person. Her obsessive behavior may seem harmless to her, but it is pretty stalker-ish to me. Even if she does at times “help” them in small ways without them knowing.

Her days of invisibility are over when someone she comes in contact with ends up murdered. She is at the top of the suspect list in no time. Edie is never one to give in though and she takes it upon herself to try and figure who the real killer is while also attempting to hide out from the cops. But what if she is the killer and just doesn’t remember?

The million-dollar question is...if your loved one was a murderer, would you notice? Would you suspect something was wrong and contact the police? When people find out a murderer/serial killer was married and some even having children, they wonder how could no one have known? Could someone have done something to stop more crimes from occurring?

When someone is murdered, the side effects doesn’t stop with the victim, they extend all the way to the victims family and even the family of the accused. Kate Moretti explores that a little with Edie Beckett in In Her Bones. I enjoyed reading the story. The concept of it is what piqued my interest. It was a pretty quick weekend read. In Her Bones wasn’t high on the suspense, but my curiosity for figuring out the killer kept me turning pages. The author knows how to create rich complex characters and well written mysteries that keep her readers guessing from first page to last.

The Blackbird Season by Kate Moretti Blog Tour!

Known for novels featuring “great pacing and true surprises” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review) and “nerve-shattering suspense” (Heather Gudenkauf, New York Time bestselling author), New York Times bestselling author Kate Moretti’s latest is the story of a scandal-torn Pennsylvania town and the aftermath of a troubled girl gone missing.
“Where did they come from? Why did they fall? The question would be asked a thousand times…
Until, of course, more important question arose, at which time everyone promptly forgot that a thousand birds fell on the town of Mount Oanoke at all.”
In a quiet Pennsylvania town, a thousand dead starlings fall onto a high school baseball field, unleashing a horrifying and unexpected chain of events that will rock the close-knit community.
Beloved baseball coach and teacher Nate Winters and his wife, Alicia, are well respected throughout town. That is, until one of the many reporters investigating the bizarre bird phenomenon catches Nate embracing a wayward student, Lucia Hamm, in front of a sleazy motel. Lucia soon buoys the scandal by claiming that she and Nate are engaged in an affair, throwing the town into an uproar…and leaving Alicia to wonder if her husband has a second life.
And when Lucia suddenly disappears, the police only to have one suspect: Nate.
Nate’s coworker and sole supporter, Bridget Harris, Lucia’s creative writing teacher, is determined to prove his innocence. She has Lucia’s class journal, and while some of the entries appear particularly damning to Nate’s case, others just don’t add up. Bridget knows the key to Nate’s exoneration and the truth of Lucia’s disappearance lie within the walls of the school and in the pages of that journal.
Told from the alternating points of view of Alicia, Nate, Lucia, and Bridget, The Blackbird Season is a haunting, psychologically nuanced suspense, filled with Kate Moretti’s signature “chillingly satisfying” (Publishers Weekly) twists and turns.

Married couple, Nate and Alecia have a good life. Living in a small Pennsylvania town, Nate is a math teacher who also coaches basketball and Alecia takes care of their 5 year old autistic son. By all accounts, they have a seemingly perfect marriage. But things aren’t always as neat and tidy as they seem on the outside. And once the blackbirds fall to their death on the baseball field, things are never the same again.

This book made me feel like I was living in Mount Oanoke. The author did a really good job of capturing that small town feeling. And in a small town where everyone knows everyone, your reputation can be everything. Nate holds on to his reputation with pride. People respect and admire him. That is until he is accused of having an affair with Lucia, an 18 year old student, that soon goes missing afterwards.

But Nate wouldn’t do such a thing would he? And even if he did have an affair with Lucia, that doesn’t mean he hurt her….Right?

Told from multiple POV’s, The Blackbird Season will have you second guessing Nate’s self-proclaimed innocence and the townspeople around him.

The Blackbird Season is a compelling book that slowly pulls you in page after page and leaves you wanting more. It was a fun and immersive read. I liked how the mystery and suspense gradually builds, the more I delved into the story. I have been a fan of Kate Moretti, every since I read The Vanishing Year. She has such a way with words and unique characters/situations. I look forward to her next story.
