About IN HER BONES:
Fifteen years ago, Lilith Wade was arrested for the brutal murder of six women. After a death row conviction, media frenzy, and the release of an unauthorized biography, her thirty-year-old daughter Edie Beckett is just trying to survive out of the spotlight. She’s a recovering alcoholic with a dead-end city job and an unhealthy codependent relationship with her brother. Edie also has a disturbing secret: a growing obsession with the families of Lilith’s victims. She’s desperate to see how they’ve managed—or failed—to move on. While her escalating fixation is a problem, she’s careful to keep her distance. That is, until she crosses a line and a man is found murdered. Edie quickly becomes the prime suspect—and while she can’t remember everything that happened the night of the murder, she’d surely remember killing someone. With the detective who arrested her mother hot on her trail, Edie goes into hiding. She’s must get to the truth of what happened that night before the police—or the real killer—find her. Unless, of course, she has more in common with her mother than she’s willing to admit…

Perfect for fans of Ruth Ware, IN HER BONES features Moretti’s “riveting and insightful” (Megan Miranda, New York Times bestselling author) prose and “chillingly satisfying” (Publishers Weekly) twists, and will leave you questioning the nature of guilt, obsession, and the toxicity of familial ties.

***************

Edie Beckett, a 30 year old on again off again alcoholic, lives her life under the radar. She is content with people not recognizing her and being able to go about her business. She also fears she could be become a sociopath like her mother Lilith Wade. Lilith Wade murdered 6 people 15 years ago and it seems like no matter what she does or how far she goes, Edie cannot outrun her past. Edie has become obsessed with finding out all she can in regards to the families of her mother's victims. She even goes as far as creating fake Facebook accounts and befriending these people and sometimes even following them in person. Her obsessive behavior may seem harmless to her, but it is pretty stalker-ish to me. Even if she does at times “help” them in small ways without them knowing.

Her days of invisibility are over when someone she comes in contact with ends up murdered. She is at the top of the suspect list in no time. Edie is never one to give in though and she takes it upon herself to try and figure who the real killer is while also attempting to hide out from the cops. But what if she is the killer and just doesn’t remember?

The million-dollar question is...if your loved one was a murderer, would you notice? Would you suspect something was wrong and contact the police? When people find out a murderer/serial killer was married and some even having children, they wonder how could no one have known? Could someone have done something to stop more crimes from occurring?

When someone is murdered, the side effects doesn’t stop with the victim, they extend all the way to the victims family and even the family of the accused. Kate Moretti explores that a little with Edie Beckett in In Her Bones. I enjoyed reading the story. The concept of it is what piqued my interest. It was a pretty quick weekend read. In Her Bones wasn’t high on the suspense, but my curiosity for figuring out the killer kept me turning pages. The author knows how to create rich complex characters and well written mysteries that keep her readers guessing from first page to last.
