Zoe Whittaker seems to have it all. Like the premise states, she currently lives a very charmed life. One others might envy. But it wasn’t always like that. And Zoe wasn’t always the put together, fashion forward woman she is today.
Without giving away too much, she struggled growing up. Things weren’t always easy for her. And some of the events from her past has shaped her into the woman she is today. But sometimes the past simply refuses to completely let you go. In this case, Zoe can’t stop contemplating her past even though her husband thinks she should move on from it once and for all. She may wish that she followed his advice.
The author made it really easy to get swept up in Zoe’s life. I enjoyed getting to know her character. She is determined, resilient, clever, and likeable. Zoe wants more for her life. She is not very content with just letting things continue the way they have been. On one particular night, things begin to change for Zoe, though probably not in the way she had imagined. What is the truth? What is a lie? Who is Zoe really? Things start to unravel for Zoe and she soon discovers that her very life may be in danger.
This was my first book that I’ve read by Kate Moretti and I’m pretty sure it won’t be the last. The Vanishing Year was a unique story that sucked me in from the first few chapters. The more I read the more questions I had. The suspense kept building and building throughout the book. I love reading a good suspense/thriller story and this one definitely kept me entertained.
