Layla by Colleen Hoover Blog Tour & GIVEAWAY!!!

This month bestselling author Colleen Hoover released her very first paranormal romance, Layla. Today Colleen shares one of her very favorite parts of the book and introduces the scene. Colleen, take it away!

“Leeds and Layla have just met about an hour before this scene takes place. I wouldn’t say they experienced insta-love, but it was definitely an immediate attraction. Leeds is lonely and withdrawn from life, while Layla is the opposite. She’s over the top and fun and everything Leeds isn’t. He’s a musician who has never released any of his own music due to insecurities and doubt. But Layla lights a fire in him and uncovers the confidence about his music that he keeps buried.”

Excerpt from Layla by Colleen Hoover

Layla leans in and I expect her to kiss me, but instead she whispers, “Play me something,” against my mouth. Then she moves to the couch and lies down. “Play something worthy of that piano,” she says.

She crosses her legs at her ankles and lets one of her arms dangle off the couch. She runs her finger against the hardwood floor while she waits for me to start playing, but I can’t stop staring at her. I’m not sure there’s another woman on this planet who could make me want to stare at her without blinking until my eyes dry up, but she’s looking at me expectantly.

“What if you don’t like my music?” I ask. “Will you still let me kiss you?”

She smiles gently. “Does the song mean something to you?”

“I wrote it using pieces of my soul.”

“Then you have nothing to worry about,” she says quietly.

I spin around on the bench and place my fingers on the keys. I hesitate for a moment before playing the song. I’ve never performed it for anyone before. The only person I’ve ever wanted to sing it for is my father, and he’s no longer alive. His death is the reason I wrote this in the first place.

I’ve never been nervous while playing Garrett’s songs onstage, but this feels different. This is personal, and despite the fact that there’s only one person in the audience right now, it feels like the most intense audience I’ve ever performed for.

I fill my lungs with air and slowly release it as I begin to play.

That night I stopped believing in heaven

I can’t believe in a god that cruel

Can you?

That night I stopped praying on my knees

But I don’t pray standing either

Do you?

That night I closed the door and closed the

window

I’ve been sitting in the dark

Are you?

That night I learned happiness is a fairy tale

A thousand pages read aloud

By you

That night I stopped believing in God

You were ours, he didn’t care, he

Took you

So that night I stopped . . .

I stopped . . .

I just

Stopped.

That night I stopped.

I stopped.

I just stopped.

That night I stopped.

I . . .

When I’m finished playing the song, I fold my hands in my lap. I’m a little hesitant to turn around and look at her. The whole room got quiet after I played the last note. So quiet—it feels like all the sound was sucked out of the house. I can’t even hear her breathing.

I close the cover to the piano and then slowly spin around on the bench. She’s wiping her eyes, staring up at the ceiling.

“Wow,” she whispers. “I wasn’t expecting that. I feel like you just stomped on my chest.”

That’s how I’ve felt since I first laid eyes on her tonight.

“I like how it ends,” she says. She sits up on the couch and tucks her legs beneath her. “You just stop in the middle of the sentence. It’s so perfect. So powerful.”

I wasn’t sure if she’d realize the intentional ending, but the fact that she does makes me all the more enamored of her.

Something Real (Reckless & Real #2) by Lexi Ryan

Publication: March 3, 2015
Publisher: Ever After, LLC.
Source: The Author/AToMR

After everything blew up on Christmas, Liz walked away from me, and I let her. She said she needed space and a chance to pursue her dreams. But we both knew she was running from the mess she made. Now the political campaign she used as an excuse to leave is bringing us back together and I’m proving to her what she really needs—not just the hot nights, greedy hands, and undeniable physical chemistry. What she really needs is something real. What she really needs…is me.

Something Real is the conclusion to Sam and Liz’s story from Something Reckless. After the big fallout in Something Reckless, Liz left town in hopes of getting a fresh start and attempting to focus on having a successful professional life.

They both have their own set of problems and unfortunately they have a tendency to listen others about what they should or shouldn’t do. I become frustrated with them several times through the book. I was frustrated with some of the mistakes they made and Liz’s seemingly inability to speak up for herself and just letting things go when she shouldn’t. And with  Sam for letting others manipulate him. They lacked good communication with each other. But despite that, I was still rooting for them  and I had my fingers crossed that Sam and Liz would find a way to work out their issues and finally be together.

This story was such an emotional rollercoaster ride. But in the best way possible.  I was excited to read how everything would play out for them. There was a bunch of drama and obstacles standing in their way, but staying away from each other wasn’t much of an option.  Liz and Sam are drawn to each other. Their chemistry is just as strong and hot as it was before. And it was obvious that these two were made for each other. I really enjoyed their story.

Avoiding Responsibility (Avoiding #2) by K.A. Linde

Publication: November 29, 2012
Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing
Source: Bought/Own

Lexi has finally given up her once destructive relationships and moved onto bigger and better things with a sexy new man in town. Just when she is starting to figure it out with him, her world is tilted once again with a phone call from none other than Ramsey Bridges. A year after his entrance into her life, Ramsey is trying to make amends and does the one thing she never expects—invites her to Jack's wedding.

The wedding she had evaded at all costs. But no matter what she does, Lexi can't seem to escape her past with Jack. But does she really want to?

Despite the explosive chemistry between Lexi and Ramsey, she is skeptical about trusting him after everything that has happened. When things are amiss with him, she starts questioning his motives. Can Ramsey be the one to remove Jack from Lexi's life permanently or should she move on with her blossoming new life?

So even though Lexie left Jack back in Atlanta, she finds herself still caught up in his drama. She is now seeing Ramsey and everything is going okay until she is invited to Jack’s wedding. For reasons beyond my understanding, she agrees to go despite the fact that it may be uncomfortable for her and could cause potential problems once she seems Jack again.
I do love Ramsey. I don’t completely trust him when it comes to Lexie, but I think he maybe be better suited for her than Jack. Jack and Lexie have this weird connection with each other and it can be difficult figuring him out.

Lexie is smart...well I am going to assume that she is smart, since she is becoming a lawyer. But she is incredibly stupid when it comes to Jack. Like a moth to a flame. Sure he is hot, and charming, and knows her better than anyone, but after she’s been hurt majorly by him several times in the past, I don’t get why she stills finds herself attracted to him. It is beyond frustrating!
But that is why I love this series. There are always surprises along the way and Lexie’s journey is bound to be an emotional ride until the end. I couldn’t seem to tear myself away from this story and the characters. They pretty much all brought something to the table. Just like before, K.A. Linde knows how write a story that get’s me emotionally invested in the characters and how everything will play out.

RATING: 4½ out of 5.

Something Reckless (Reckless & Real #1) by Lexi Ryan Release Event!

Publication: December 22, 2014
Publisher: Ever After, LLC
Source: Author & AToMR Tours

He talks dirty to me, but I don’t know his name.

He wants to tie me up, but I don’t know his face.

He turns me on, but I couldn’t point him out in a crowd.

I’ve fallen for an anonymous stranger, and now the anonymity ends. I want more than typed secrets and texted promises. I want something reckless. Heat. Passion. The thrill of being entirely possessed.

Because I suspect this anonymous stranger isn’t a stranger at all.

*****

Lizzy Thompson met riverrat69 online through a service promising to deliver meaningful relationships by forbidding its users to share names or photos until they’ve reached a certain benchmark. She was looking for love. He was researching an investment. They hit it off. Talked and flirted, hid behind screen names and cartoon avatars.

Now they’re breaking the rules and meeting in person. But Liz is prepared. She’s picked up hints and followed clues. She’s nearly convinced she’s discovered the identity of her dirty-talking online friend.

She wonders if her ex-lover Sam Bradshaw knows her identity too.
When she rolls the dice on one reckless night, her chance at something real could crumble.

Something Reckless is part one of the Reckless & Real series. Part two, Something Real will be released in 2015.

I was so happy when I found out about Lexi Ryan’s newest book. If you haven’t read any of her books, you don’t know what you are missing! Ever since Lost In Me, I have been a fan.  Now it is Lizzy and Sam’s turn to have a little romance and hopefully a happy ending.  I will try not to be too spoilery for this review.

Lizzy has always had a thing for Sam. But he has a bad boy reputation. Despite that reputation, Lizzy still want to go for it.  But Sam doesn’t do relationships, and only wants a sexual relationship with Liz. She claims she is okay with that. But when a bad situation ends up causing problems between Lizzy, Sam’s sister and her fiance., it also ends up putting a strain on her friendship with Sam.

In an attempt to find something real like her sisters and friends, she signs up for an online dating site where she meets a man who she is hoping is really Sam.

Lizzy is a strong woman who knows what she wants. She has goals and ambitions, but she doesn’t always make the best decisions. She has good intentions, but those intentions sometimes lead to bad choices.
Sam  is a dominate, sexy man who wants no complications in his life. Especially when it comes to Lizzy. He feels things for her that he hasn’t with any other woman he’s been with. But his past issues are keeping him from having something more with her.

Both Liz and Sam have emotional barriers that are stopping them from being together.  Not to mention secrets. Their chemistry is scorching hot for sure, and the more I read, the more I was hoping they would move past everything and take a chance on each other. But if I was hoping everything was going to be resolved neatly and happily by the end of this book, it was just wishful thinking on my part. Beware there is a cliffhanger with this one!

In the end, Something Reckless was a thoroughly satisfying read. It met my expectations and then some. I am just super disappointed that I have to wait until March 3, 2015 to find out what happens next!! Before you read this, I would definitely recommend reading the free novela, Something Wild first.

Torture to Her Soul (Monster in His Eyes #2) by J.M. Darhower

Publication:September 29, 2014
Publisher: J.M. Darhower
Source: The Author / Bought

Don't say it unless you mean it…

It's a simple concept, one I've said time and again, but something people don't seem to comprehend. You should choose every syllable carefully, because you never know when somebody will hold you to your word.

Somebody like me.

I'm not a good man. I'm not. I know. I have enough darkness inside of me to rid the world of every stitch of light. But there's one I could never harm, one light I couldn't bring myself to snuff out.

Karissa.

She thinks I'm a monster, and maybe I am. I taunt her with my touch, get a thrill out of torturing her soul. But I'm not the only one. The world is full of monsters, and I'm not the most dangerous one out there.

Not even close…

God help me, I love her.

I do.

And God help anyone who tries to take her from me.

“When you’ve got nothing left inside of you except for darkness, it becomes easier to snuff out somebody else’s light.
And that’s me. I do what I want, take what I want, and make no apologies for any of it. After all, I wasn’t born this way. The world made me who I am, and the world pays for that mistake every day.”

OMG.There are just no words….there are no words to adequately describe how great it was to finally be able to read the conclusion of Naz and Karissa’s story! I was beyond excited. Naz is such a tortured bad ass. And Karissa...she is still a little innocent and naive about things, but if Naz is okay with that then I am too.  They are opposites, but they are good are for each other.

Torture to Her Soul basically picks up not long after where the first book left us. And much to my surprise, I discovered that this story is told from Naz’s point of view. Something I wasn’t expecting, but I very much enjoyed.  I kind of feel torn while writing this review, because I don’t want to get spoilery and ruin the experience for those who have yet to read it. So I am going to try and keep it short and simple.

Karissa is still struggling with her feelings for Naz. She loves of him, but she knows she shouldn’t. Naz doesn’t appreciate the fact the Karissa  is shutting him out.  Naz is afraid that he is losing her. He is conflicted about his feelings as well, but he knows that he needs her. He needs her like he needs air to breathe. And she needs him more than she realizes.

It was pretty interesting being able to see inside Naz’s head….his thoughts and reasonings. It was especially interesting to see his relationship with Ray and how that changed when Karissa entered the picture.  Naz has always had his head in the game. He made a promise to Ray and he plotted his revenge for years. Letting that hurt and anger fester inside of him the whole time. But nothing could have prepared him for falling in love with Karissa Rita. And he has to deal with the consequences of that.

Nothing is ever cut and dry. Love can be the greatest thing, but it can also be painful. The truth is never simple and when your in bed with mob, you can never get too comfortable. Naz and Karissa’s life is never be boring, that’s for sure. And I loved being a part of their journey. Monster in His Eyes is still the best book of the two in my opinion, but I still enjoyed  Torture to Her Soul a lot. I loved seeing the progress...the give and take these two made. And I think their ending was a good one. The author really knows how to write a story that hooks you in and gets you emotionally invested.

So this didn’t really turn out to be the short review I had originally hoped for. And I am probably rambling for a good portion of it. My apologies. I can’t wait for you guys to read it and tell me your thoughts on it!

RATING: 5 out of 5.
