I enjoyed reading about Edie’s life and seeing her interactions with her family, especially her grandmother. Her grandmother can predict the exact date her family members will meet their “soulmate”. So far she has never been wrong. Talk about an interesting gift to have.

 

This was a unique take on pretty typical romance story…I liked Edie’s character and seeing her growth and journey throughout the book. She is smart, fun, and driven. I could feel Edie’s excitement and nervousness as she scans the crowd looking for her special person. I mean who wouldn’t be excited if they knew the actual date they would meet the person they were supposed to spend their life with??

 

Meant to be Mine is a fun and quirky story about finding “the one” and Edie’s journey to finding her happy ending. 

The story overall was good and entertaining. It was a little slow and seemed to drag at times, but I had to keep reading to find out how things would end. There was a surprising twist in the story that added to the entertainment factor.

Even though you can go back home, sometimes you shouldn't...

Behind the Red Door is told from the POV of Fern. She is an interesting character to get to know. Fern is married, she's a social worker, and she is and extremely paranoid and anxious person. Fern second-guesses everything and almost always thinks the worst. She longs for the love and approval of her parents, especially her father. Considering all that she has gone through, I'm surprised Fern doesn't have more issues than she already does. Her going home again leads her to investigating the disappearance of Alice. This is where things start to pick up in the story for me. There is an air of mystery surrounding the town that Alice first disappeared from when she was a teenager and I immediately wanted to know what people were hiding and if they knew more than they were letting on.

I was curious by the first few chapters. The more I more suspicious everyone and everything seemed. That curiosity didn't end until the last page of the story. I wasn't super surprised by everything that occurred in Behind the Red Door, but I definitely did not expect those last couple of twists.
The writing is good, and the story flowed at a decent pace. Megan Collins has created a suspenseful mystery that not only involves a kidnapping, but she also explores the dynamics of family and the effects that the past can have on a person in the present.

I feel like this review needs to be a little bit more vague than normal because I really don’t want to say anything that spoils the storyline too much. I will say that as you can see from the premise, the story revolves around Dannie, whose life is super organized and planned out to the max. So much so that she even has a five-year plan for her life. She is determined and very practical. And never doubts for a second that her plans will not work out/come together. Dannie’s character was interesting. I didn’t really connect with her though and I thought she was just okay. 

Bella I really liked. She is Dannie's best friend and is free spirited, strong willed, and a super kindhearted woman. I loved seeing the ins and outs of their friendship. They are complete opposites, but it was easy to see why they are friends.

In Five Years is definitely not your typical love story. I went in thinking I was going to get a certain story, but I ended up with something very different than what I was expecting. When I finished reading this book, I really did not know what to think about it. Did I Ultimately like it? Yes, I liked parts of it. There were a few things that I didn’t care for, but it was an enjoyable read nonetheless about love and friendship. The writing was well done and effortless. The storyline never lulled; it had a nice flow to it. I would recommend it to people who enjoy non-typical love stories.

REVIEW:

The beginning of the story was a little slow going for me at first, but once I read through the first few chapters I was able to get into it. Say You Still Love Me switches from present to past with flashbacks of when Kyle and Piper were camp counselors in summer camp together.  I really enjoyed getting to know Kyle and Piper. It was fun to see what kind of person they were as teenagers and then as the young adults they became now. 

After camp, these two went their separate ways until their paths crossed 13 years later. It’s clear that time has not dulled memories or emotions for either of them. But they won’t be able to just pick up where they left off. 

I wasn’t a huge fan of the flashbacks, but I felt like they were a necessary part of the story. Kyle and Piper were easy to get to know and relate to. I liked not only their interactions with each other, but with their friends as well.  When I read a book by K.A. Tucker, I can expect it to make me smile, take me by surprise, and have me rooting for one or both of the characters before the story ends. Say You Still Love Me is a sweet, heart tugging second chance romance that I really enjoyed delving into. Once I got deeper into Piper and Kyle’s story I did not want to stop until I finished it.

Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell

I feel like I have an ache in my heart after reading this book. Hours after I finished it, I keep thinking about that last page over and over again. I thought I knew what I was getting into when I began this story, but apparently I was mistaken. 

What started out as a simple girl gone missing story, turned into a more complex mystery than I had anticipated. Ellie Mack is your typical teenager in London. She is a bright, energetic, and smart girl. She has two loving parents and a brother and sister who adore her as well. At this stage in her life, all she wants is to spend time with her boyfriend Theo and pass her upcoming exams. Everything is going pretty much according to plan until that fateful day when she accepts an offer she shouldn't have and then she is never seen again. Fast forward 10 years later and most of Ellie Mack's family has moved on while her mom, Laurel is going through the motions, but is still dealing with her daughter's disappearance. Then she meets Floyd, a well dressed man who seems so sure of himself. It all seems too good to be true until Laurel meets Poppy, Floyd's daughter and she comes to a startling realization that Poppy looks remarkably like her missing daughter Ellie.  How is that possible??

Then She Was Gone was a very enjoyable read. like I said at the beginning of this review, I thought I knew where everything was going to go but I was wrong on some things. There are things I guessed but there were still some twists in the story that I hadn’t anticipated and I enjoyed that. I liked the different points of view in the story. It went from then to now and I got to see the thought process and actions of several of the main characters in the story. I loved that. I didn't really want to know exactly what happened to Ellie because I was afraid of the outcome, however I could not stop myself from reading page after page. The whole book had a sort of somber tone to it, but it was that last page...that last page that stayed with me.
