Waiting on Wednesday # 29

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine. The goal is to spotlight upcoming books that I am super excited for.

This week I am waiting on Love, Lucy by April Lindner.

Expected Publication: January 15, 2015

Publisher: Poppy

While backpacking through Florence, Italy, during the summer before she heads off to college, 17-year-old Lucy Sommersworth finds herself falling in love with the culture, the architecture, the food...and Jesse Palladino, a handsome street musician. After a whirlwind romance, Lucy returns home, determined to move on from her "vacation flirtation." But just because summer is over doesn't mean Lucy and Jesse are over, too.

Inspired by E.M. Forster's A Room with a View.

I know this book doesn’t come out until next year, so it’s a ridiculously long wait, but it looks super adorable! I’ve always liked romances that happen in another country, so Love, Lucy is no exception.

What are you waiting for this week???

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith

Publication: January 2, 2012

Publisher: Poppy/Little Brown

Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?

Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan's life. Having missed her flight, she's stuck at JFK airport and late to her father's second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon-to-be stepmother Hadley's never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport's cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he's British, and he's sitting in her row.

A long night on the plane passes in the blink of an eye, and Hadley and Oliver lose track of each other in the airport chaos upon arrival. Can fate intervene to bring them together once more?

Quirks of timing play out in this romantic and cinematic novel about family connections, second chances, and first loves. Set over a twenty-four-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver's story will make you believe that true love finds you when you're least expecting it.

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight makes you really consider the ‘what ifs’ that occur in life. What if you went back in the house to get your cell phone instead of leaving it at home? What if you got stuck at a red light that held you up? What if a cute stranger boy asks to help you with your luggage at the airport and you say yes instead of no?

Hadley and Oliver meet at the airport while waiting to board their flight to London. Hadley is 17 and lives with her mom in Connecticut. She is still struggling with the effects of her parents divorcing, her dad moving away to London, and now getting married to another woman.  There are some flashbacks to how things were when her parents were beginning to have problems and other important moments in Hadley’s life. I found her easy to understand and to relate to. Her feelings, indecision, and anger were real and expected.

Oliver on the hand was a little hard to read and figure out. He kept a lot of his thoughts and feelings hidden.  Out of the two of them I think he is the optimist.

Hadley and Oliver’s further interactions are sweet and honest.  And even though they have known each other for a few hours, they strike a unique connection. Their chance meeting at the airport ends up being something that helps them cope with the unfolding events of their day.

This book was a cute and charming quick read. The first story I have ever read where all the events take place within a 24 hour time frame.

The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight is a fun contemporary YA romance that will appeal to readers who enjoy sweet, clean, and quick YA romances.

RATING: 3½ out of 5.

**I received this book on behalf of the Publisher in exchange for nothing but my honest opinion. Thank you**
