When Jessica Farris signs up for a psychology study conducted by the mysterious Dr. Shields, she thinks all she’ll have to do is answer a few questions, collect her money, and leave. But as the questions grow more and more intense and invasive and the sessions become outings where Jess is told what to wear and how to act, she begins to feel as though Dr. Shields may know what she’s thinking…and what she’s hiding. As Jess’s paranoia grows, it becomes clear that she can no longer trust what in her life is real, and what is one of Dr. Shields’ manipulative experiments. Caught in a web of deceit and jealousy, Jess quickly learns that some obsessions can be deadly.

When Jessica enters a study in order to make some extra cash,
she begins to question what the truth is and what is a lie. An
Anonymous Girl is a story that I feel is best to go into without knowing
too much. I loved that feeling of going into it blindly. It makes the story
more enjoyable and you are more open to the twists and turns. The deeper I got
into the story, the crazier I thought Dr. Shields was and then I began to
wonder if Jessica is just as crazy for blindly going along with her. Or is Dr.
Shields just that good at manipulating people and getting her way?
When Jessica begins to second guess every action, every
encounter, I wonder if she is being perhaps too paranoid. Then again, what if
she is right?
I loved the suspense in this story. Each interaction between Dr.
Shields and Jessica caused me to be concerned and wonder what the heck is
really going on here. I loved that. During the course of the book however, it felt
like there was so much buildup, that when the ending came, it was a little
lackluster. The ending definitely could have been better in my opinion.
Overall, I did enjoy reading the book. The writing and suspense kept me turning
page after page, wanting to know what was going to happen next. I will definitely
be checking out more work from these two authors in the future.
RATING: 3½-4 out of 5.
